CINAT revival was at the center of a meeting at the Presidency of the Republic with all the stakeholders

The conflict situation currently prevailing at the Cimenterie Nationale was the subject of a meeting at the Cabinet of the Head of State, chaired by André Wamesso, Deputy Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic.

Together, provincial deputies from Kongo Central, trade unionists from CINAT and other partners reviewed all the aspects related to the revival of this public company.

After twelve years of work stoppage at the Cimenterie Nationale (CINAT), a farm-out contract had been signed between the Congolese State, via the Ministry of Portfolio, with the technical assistance of the Ministers of Industry and Mines, and the Indian firm Diamond Cement, for the revival of activities.

This new contract, which nevertheless presents advantages, in particular on the technical and social levels, was the basis of a conflict of interest between the management committee, the CODER (Commission for Rural Development) and the population of Kimpese through their elected representatives at the Kongo Central Provincial Assembly.

The Deputy Director of Cabinet of the Head of State, in charge of economic and financial issues, André Wamesso, wanted to listen to the grievances of each party to try to solve this problem and accelerate the process of relaunching CINAT.

Once a jewel of the Congolese economy, the national cement factory based in Kimpese in the province of Kongo Central will soon be reborn from its ashes. Thanks to the personal involvement of the Head of State, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, the CINAT, whose production has been stopped for more than ten years, will be able to benefit from a new lease of life.

During this meeting, it was a question, for all the stakeholders, of jointly formulating a proposal to end the crisis.

For the Provincial Assembly of Kongo Central, which set up a commission represented at this meeting, a reform of the National Cement Factory is more than imperative. Pierre Muanda Mvumbi, Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission set up for this case, thanked the Head of State for his personal involvement in this case.

Eugène Diomi Ndongala, President of CODER, is also delighted with the outcome of this confusion which has reigned for a long time, thus preventing CINAT from taking off again.

As for the trade union delegation, present at this working session, it is a real breath of fresh air for the CINAT company. Its delegates swear by the revival of this gray cement production plant in order to relieve many agents who have been unpaid for more than 120 months.

Built since 1974 by Marshal Mobutu, the CINAT has not produced a single bag of cement since 2001. Pending the finalization of the process of its revival which goes through several prerequisites, the Deputy Director of Cabinet of the Head of State André Wamesso urged all stakeholders to get to work in order to present concrete proposals to finally allow CINAT to experience a new lease of life.
